28th Mar 1836 | 71 Enslaved | £3865 10s 3d
Parliamentary Papers, p. 319. The award listed in PP p. 132 shows a litigated award of £3,865 10s 3d.
PP p. 319 shows that John Ross received £2,371 13s 10d (List C cases).
T71/887: claim by Andrew Gallaway and George Lawson, owner-in-fee. John Ross, of 'Calmore', County Ross, counterclaimed as mortgagee, dated 04/05/1819, for £7393 17s 7d over 42 enslaved persons.
2383 B & C: £743 4s 0d and £750 2s 5d went to Pieter Portielje, of Amsterdam (T71/1260). (Total received = £1,493 6s 5d.)
T71/433 p. 1706: enslaved persons were registered by G. Lawson, as joint proprietor, in 1832.
Thus the total of awards to Ross and Portielje = £3,865 0s 3d. (This = the amount of the award shown on p. 132 except that the latter is £3,865 10s 3d.) The difference of 10s between the above calculation and the figure given on p. 132 may be because of a mistake in the PP or it may be a mistake in these notes.
