William Champion Crespigny

Possibly a confusion in the slave compensation records with Philip Champion de Crespigny (q.v.), who claimed the compensation for Woodland in St Mary as owner-in-fee, although the award for the estate is shown under 'William Champion Crespigny'.

1. Sir William Champion de Crespigny, second bart., died in 1829. He was MP for Southampton 1818-1826. The naval officer Augustus James de Crespigny who died at sea in 1825 and was buried in Port Royal, Jamaica, was Sir William's son. No other William Champion de Crespigny has been traceable. A death record indexed for William Champion de Crespigny at Thame Q2 1839 is not reflected in the underlying document.
