Biography

Resident slave-owner in Jamaica, dying there in 1855.

  1. 'We stayed several hours at the Moneague, and called upon a gentleman by the name of BRYDON, to whom we had an introductory letter. He had just sold his estate in the neighbourhood, as he was anxious to return home.' Despite this wish, in the will of David Brydon of St Ann Middlesex proved 30/11/1855 he asked to be buried at Rose Hall where he then resided and for a tombstone to be placed recording his birth in 1773. He left his furniture and house called Rose Hall for life to his 'faithful servant' Margaret Lewis, and his residuary estate to his brothers and sisters, John, William of Lochaber in Dumfries, and sisters Helen Morlay and Jane Kirke, probably also in Scotland.
