Biography

Awarded the majority of the compensation for the enslaved people on Main Savanna in Clarendon Jamaica.   

  1. In 1881 James A. Maclean aged 70 Landed proprietor born Jamaica was living at Folkestone, Kent with his wife Maria aged 45 born Worcester and mother-in-law Maria Lechmere aged 80. In 1871 as J.A. Maclean he had been living at Langhorne Gardens Folkestone, aged 61, 'English & foreign bondholder' with wife M. aged 35 born Stamford Bucks. Death of James Alured McLean registered Q1 1889 Ticehurst Kent. Maria Maclean in 1861 was living in Brighton aged 26 born Stamford Berks with a daughter Bertha aged 3. Maria Maclean died in 1891 leaving c. £12,000.
