Attorney with James McDonald for Blackheath estate in Westmoreland, Jamaica, in 1832.
He married Margaret Taylor Smith in St Elizabeth on 10/06/1840.
When his thirteen-year-old son died of pulmonary consumption in 1888, John Reid McDonald was living at Coffee Hall in Trelawny, previously owned by his brother James Macdonald.
He died on 19/04/1896, aged 90, at Duan Vale, Trelawny (q.v.); his death certificate recorded "pains in his chest."
