Catherine Longe (née Jackson)

Shown as owner of the Camp estate on St Kitts in 1817. Her path to ownership has not yet been definitively traced, but almost certainly came by gift or bequest from General Charles Leigh (q.v., d. 1815), a lifelong friend of her husband Francis Longe (who d. 1812). In the registrations of 1822, 1825 and 1828, the estate was shown as that of the deceased General Leigh, but in 1830 the enslaved people were shown as having been sold by the estate of Mrs Catherine Longe.

1. Will of Catherine Longe of Spixworth Park, Norfolk proved 21/08/1828. In the will she left to Georgiana Leigh the daughter of Colonel Leigh a portrait of General Leigh: this must be the same General Leigh who had previously been the owner of Camp estate on St Kitts. She instructed her trustee William Strickland Cookson to sell her [unnamed] real estate on St Kitts, and after several monetary legacies left the residual estate to be divided in five equal parts between legates in Britain, including the Rev. George Howes, the Rector of Spixworth. She identified her brother in the will as Sir George Duckett [2nd bart., ne Jackson, MP for Weymouth].
