Biography

  1. Edward Stirling was overseer on Osborne Estate in St George, Jamaica, in the mid-1820s when Benjamin McMahon worked for him briefly as a book-keeper. Describing Stirling as "one of the most atrocious monsters" he had come across, McMahon noted that the enslaved people under him were "utterly disabled and worn down" by the "dreadful cruelties heaped upon them."
