1717 - 1779
The celebrated actor, and mortgagee of property including enslaved people on Grenada. An indenture of 11th February 1775 between Peter Simond, John Hankey and Robert Orme of the one part and David Garrick of Adelphi Buildings of the other rehearsed earlier deeds of 1769 and secured £6000, subsequently increased by £4000, advanced by David Garrick to Simond, Hankey and Orme by mortgage over St Cloux and Grand Bras estates and the enslaved people attached to them. His will is silent on the mortgage, which is apparent in the David Garrick papers at Hereford Museum but is not mentioned in his ODNB entry.
