Biography

This is not the same James Fowler who was the owner of Friendship Estate.
Baptism records list James Fowler as overseer at Friendship Estate in 1822 and 1823, when he is recorded as the “reputed” father of Mary Fowler and Elizabeth Fowler at their baptisms. Their mother is listed as Eliza Muir, “free Mulatto”, who herself was baptised in November 1816 at the age of 24.
Note that Eliza Muir is recorded as having three other children (Andrew Fowler, Donald Fowler and Charles Fowler), all of whom were baptised at the same time as her. While Jamaican Family Search notes all children as the descendants of James Fowler, the original record seems to show Andrew, Donald and Charles as the sons of an A. Fowler.

We are grateful to John Fowler for help with this entry.

Records of families from registers and wills record James Fowler as overseer at Friendship Estate in 1822 and 1823 at least when he is recorded as the “reputed” father of Mary Fowler and Elizabeth Fowler at their baptisms. The association with this Friendship Estate, as opposed to Friendship [1], is due to the ownership by the Fowler family of this estate - it may be that James Fowler was a relative of the owner James Fowler.
