Robert Crawford

Resident planter, awarded the compensation for the enslaved people on the Duff House, Scotia, Woodlands and Caledonia estates in Manchester, Jamaica.

1. Will of Robert Crawford of Manchester, Island of Jamaica proved 12/04/1838. Under the terms of his will, made 24/09/1836, after legacies to two family members, one residing in Scotland, and bequests of £50 each for mourning to a further group of half a dozen legatees (five of whom were in Scotland), Robert Crawford provided for the sale of his four estates and the apprentices upon them, the proceeds to be divided equally between four 'reputed sons' - Colin Francis, John Reid, Robert and Adam. In addition he left to his reputed daughter Charlotte £500 and ten acres of land; and to three further reputed daughters Jessy, Margaret and Isabella £1500 currency each. He appointed three executors but with the proviso that one, Colin Francis Crawford (who proved the will in London in 1838) should be the only acting executor unless any dispute arose.
