Will of Hopewell Tyler of Forthampton, Gloucester and of Trelawney in Jamaica, Gentleman Executors for personal estate in England: Baker Morrell Esquire, Frederick Joseph Morrell his son and Sarah Anne Chapman Spinster, all of the City of Oxford. Executors of personal estate in the Island of Jamaica: Friends Joseph Hodgson, Roger Davis and William Miller the younger, all of the parish of Trelawney, Esquires. Estate in England: But as his personal estate in England was not of his own acquiring but came from his maternal grandfather, Hopewell Hayward, and his maternal uncle, Hopewell Hayward, his son, he wishes James Wright Morrell and his brothers as they severally come into possession of the estate to take and use the name Hopewell or Hayward or both – if not they will lose their entitlement. Arrears of rent to Sarah Anne Chapman for her own use and benefit. Household furniture and other effects in his house and estate at Forthampton to go with the inheritance of the personal estate. To Elizabeth wife of William Ellis of Minsterworth 20 guineas as a token of his respect for her and his late friend the Rev Martin BARRY of Gloucester, her father. Best Gold Watch to Walter Henry Gill eldest son of Captain Henry Gill. Residuary Estate in England to late father’s relations Mrs Sarah Gill, cousin Emily Gill her daughter and the three children of Captain Henry Gill her deceased son – Walter Henry Gill, Dundas Richard Porter Gill and Anna Maria Porter Gill – in five equal shares. Estate in Jamaica: Two shares in the Falmouth Water Company to Elizabeth [Harwood? Stanwood?] for life and after her to Elizabeth Tyler. To both Elizabeths, £100. To executors for Jamaican estate, £100 in token of his regard and acknowledgement of their acceptance of executorship. Wharf at the Rock near Falmouth with buildings etc, the 16 ‘negros or apprentices’ residing there, his interest as Trustee in possession in a pen or plantation in the parish of Trelawny called Cainwood [likely this refers to the Caenwood estate as listed in this database] with the ‘negros or apprentices’ attached and a piece of Mountain provision land purchased for their use, his books, debts and all the rest of real and personal estate in Jamaica, not otherwise bequeathed, to his Jamaica executors/trustees, to sell and share the proceeds equally between Sarah Gill, Emily Gill and the three children of Henry Gill deceased.
