Thomas Crafer

Awarded part of the compensation for the enslaved people on Seven Plantations estate in Clarendon with William Cotton as trustees and executors of Mary Chandler, heir and devisee of Revd Dr George Chandler.   

1. Provisionally identified as the Thomas Crafer who was one of the Principal Clerks Assisant to the Secretaries at the Treasury (with Alex W. Spearman, q.v.) from at least 1823 to 1834 (and Paymaster of Pensions to Amercian Loyalists in 1834) and in turn was probably the Thomas Crafer of Lark Hall Grove, Clapham Surrey, who was buried 22/1/1841 aged 69 at Holy Trinity Clapham and whose will was proved 10/2/1841. This was probably the Thomas Crafer of Lambeth who married Sophie or Sophia Porter 9/10/1797 at St Leonard Streatham, and the father of Charles Long Crafer and Thomas John Crafer, sons of Thomas and Sophia Crafer, baptised at St Mary Lambeth 31/12/1798 and 3/6/1802 respectively. These two sons were the executors of Thomas Crafer's co-trustee William Cotton.  

There is a second theoretical possibility in London, Thomas Crafer of Victoria Street Islington, who was buried at St Mary Islington 07/04/1839 aged 50 but whose will was proved only 16/06/1843. This was probably the Thomas Crafer who married Elizabeth Sayents 02/07/1818 at St Pancras Parish Chapel.
