Biography

Marie Euphemie Ferugson (née Aquart) was born c. 1810 in Vieux Fort, St. Lucia

She was awarded part of the compensation for enslaved people on Reform [?] estate on St Vincent as part of a wider group of awardees from the Aquart family. Her husband, Duncan Ferguson (q.v.) was a merchant in St Lucia.

In 1861 aged 13, and later in and 1871 aged 23, Marie A. Ferguson, born St Lucia, was living with her parents Duncan Ferguson and Jane B. Ferguson (née Robertson) at 8 Havelock Terrace Govan Lanarkshire. The latter two are the nephew and niece of Marie Euphemie Ferguson (née Aquart) through marriage. The Marie A. Ferguson mentioned in the two censuses is therefore her great-niece.

She died 16/02/1855 aged 45 in Bordeaux, Rue St. Francois, France.

We are grateful to Cathy Aquart and Philippe Clerc for assistance in compiling this entry.
