Townhouse in Southampton, formerly belonging to the Earls of Southampton, purchased and renovated 'at a considerable expence' by William Gunthorpe, and subject shortly afterwards to a devastating fire in November 1791 which destroyed Gunthorpe's carriages, his library 'valued at 600 [ster]l[ing] and apparently much of the house.

Born into slavery in Carriacou, Grenada, Malvina Wells became a lady's maid in Edinburgh and a trusted family friend to her employers.
