18th century house built by Edward Garthwaite after he bought the Hall Place estate c.1743 and demolished the extant house. In turn, Garthwaite's house - reportedly sold by him in 1781 but possibly sold by his son on Edward Garthwaite's death that same year - was largely demolished after 1797.
