Alexander Robertson

Awarded the compensation for 40 of the enslaved people on Strewan or Struan Castle in Manchester Jamaica as owner-in-fee, and identified as an absentee in the compensation records. The compensation for a further 54 enslaved people on the same estate was awarded to Duncan Robertson of Gilnock (q.v.), almost certainly his brother.

1. Very probably Alexander Robertson, baptised at Callander, Perth, on 05/09/1783, the son of James Robertson and Isabella Graham. This man was the brother of Duncan Robertson 'who went to Jamaica'. In Pigot's 1837 National Commercial Directory Alexander Robertson was shown at East Mains, Callander; in 1851 Alexander Robertson aged 64 [sic] was living at 32 East Mains Callander with his brother James and was described as 'proprietor in Jamaica'. This man inherited £1000 under the will of his brother Henry Robertson of Mansfield Callender, proved 21/10/1854.
