William Carter

Jamaican-born son of William Carter senior, owner of Wilmington and Essex estates in St Thomas-in-the-East, for which the compensation was awarded to his widow Anna Carter (q.v.) as his executrix, trustee and devisee.

1. Marriage, February 1800] At Wilmington, William Carter, Mason, and Anne McGibbons Spinster of this parish by Licence from the Lieutenant Governor." Also in February 1800, "Baptised at Wilmington four Negroes belonging to Mr William Carter named Richard Carter, Robert Carter, Wm Carter and Thomas Draper. Also Anna McGibbon a Negro woman belonging to Mr McGibbon. And three persons of colour belonging on Island Head named Elizabeth, Eleanor and her Child Margaret." The 1818 will of William Carter of Wilmington, proved by Anna Carter, mentions his mother-in-law McGibbon and his father William Carter, who was still living.
