Caroline Hannah Neave

London philanthropist, daughter of Sir Richard Neave, sister of Sir Thomas Neave (q.v.) and aunt of Sheffield Neave (q.v.). Not a claimant but a member (and presumably dependant) of the London mercantile dynasty which did claim through Sir Thomas Neave.

1. Born 23/3/1781 one of seven children of Richard Neave (1731-1814) 'later first baronet' and Frances Bristow (d. 1830). In 1822 she founded and ran the Tothill Fields Asylum for more 'orderly' discharged prisoners in Westminster. Member of British Ladies Society April 1823. Headed the subcommittee establishing the Manor Hall Asylum in Chelsea for 'vicious female children' in 1825. Established a visiting committee in Coldbath Fields prison with Elizabeth Fry. Lived at Thurlow Square most of her life but later moved to 49 Gloucester Street, Warwick Square, where she died 07/12/1863, leaving £4000.
