Philip Wilson of Tobago

Brother of Thomas Wilson of Tobago (q.v.) and co-owner of Montepelier estate on Tobago and L'Anse La Roche on Grenada.

1. Will of Philip Wilson of planter of Island of Tobago proved 31/01/1798. In the will he said that he owned a one-third part 'or moiety' [sic] of an estate near the Town of Scarbro, in the parish of St Andrew called Montpelier and one half part or moiety of a certain plantation under the will of his late father Wm Wilson, design'd of Soonhope, Writer in Edinburgh, in Carriacou Grenada called L'Anse [given as Lance] La Roche. He left the two estates to his dearly beloved daughter Martha Euphemia Wilson (q.v.) and failing her to his wife Martha Wilson and his brother Thomas Wilson both at present of the island of Tobago, and failing them to his nephew Arthur Philip Hamilton [q.v.], son of his brother-in-law John Hamilton late of Tobago but now in Bishopsgate, Egham in Surrey and Philip Wilson son of Thomas Wilson. He bequeathed named enslaved people ('Fanny, Mary, Susan and her two children Kitty and Ann, with her son Billy Charlotte [sic] with all their farther and future issue and increase, Sambo, Marmaduke, George and Quashie and Eleanor her present and her further issue and increase') to his wife Martha, along with named horses and cattle. He also left her an annuity of £200 p.a. His daughter Martha Euphemia was at Twickenham in the care of Mrs Celia Pomeroy. He left monetary legacies to family members including his brother-in-law Rev. William Gloag of Edinburgh. His executors included Thomas Maltby and Wm. Crichton of Red Bull Wharf in London as well as his father-in-law John Grant late of Carriacou but now in the Kingdom of England.
