John Oliver

Of Hoole Hall in Cheshire. Married Jane Catherine Sarah, daughter of Robert Long (1729-) and grand-daughter of Samuel Long. Until 1829, Boyles shows John Oliver at 30 and then (after the renumbering of the street) 36 Harley Street and Hoole Hall. To date, no life-dates for Jane Catherine Sarah Oliver have been found.

1. Will of John Oliver of [Hoole Cheshire and Harley Street] St Marylebone [made in 1827] proved 11/05/1832. He left this Cheshire estates to his son Thomas Long Oliver. He said that his wife Jane Catherine Sarah nee Long was entitled to a life-interest in one-third of 'certain estates and slaves' in Jamaica formerly the property of her grandfather, and that he [the testator] had purchased a further one-third interest from Samuel Scudamore Heming. He willed the latter interest for life to his wife and then after her death both interests to Thomas Long Oliver. He left £2000 to his second son Rev. Robert Oliver. and a further £2000 on the death or marriage of his [the testator's] wife; and an annuity of £104 p.a. to his third son Philip Henry Oliver, increasing to £156 p.a. on the death or remarriage of his [again the testator's] wife. He left £2000 each to his three daughters Amy Charlotte, Charlotte and Mary Oliver, and a further £3000 each after the death or remarriage of their mother his wife, and two sums of £2000 in trust for his daughter Lucy. In a codicil of 31/12/1829 he said that by virtue of the 'great depression' of West India property he needed to reduce the additional payments to each of his daughters after his wife's death to £2000 making each of their legacies £4000 in total. He also recorded the marriage of his eldest daughter Amy Charlotte to John Hewitt Wheatley, when he had made a settlement upon her, so he revoked her legacy under the will. Administration of his will was granted in 1859 to the executors of his son Thomas Long Oliver's will.
