Captain Thomas Rowe

Owner of Jackmans and Checker Hall on Barbados until his death in 1818. The estates and enslaved people were sold by his trustee Henry Thornhill before the compensation process.

1. Will of Thomas Rowe at present residing in St Michael Barbados Captain in HM's Royal Navy [recorded in Barbados in December 1818] proved in London 07/07/1819. Under the will he left members of the Thornhill family over £5000 in legacies (some in £ sterling, some in currency), and annuities to two female cousins named Gibson. He left his 'black man slave' named Frank Thomas to his cousin Jane Dowding Gibson. He instructed his executors to convey his faithful servant Sammy to any person resident in Great Britain in order to free him, the costs to come out of his estate 'but not to exceed ten guineas.' His residuary heirs were his nephews William Rigby Bradshaw and James Bradshaw, failing whom the estate was to pass to his executors Dowding Thornhill and Henry Thornhill.
