Langford Lovell Hodge of Antigua

Father of Langford Lovell Hodge (1807-1862) (q.v.).

1. Will of Langford Lovell Hodge of the island of Antigua planter but at present residing at Old Warren Cottage County of Southampton [made in 1811] proved 17/04/1817. Under the will he left an annuity of £300 p.a. to his wife Rebecca Byam Hodge to be increased to £500 p.a. if any future valuation of his estate showed a value higher than £20,000 [possibly in light of below £30,000], together with seven named enslaved people [George, Eloise (?), Castallia, Frederick, Sukey, Best (?), and Lucretia], and an allowance for his son of £150 p.a. to 21 and for his daughter £100 p.a. until 15 and then £150 p.a. until his son reached 21. He left a legacy of £8000 to his daughter Rebecca providing his estate was valued at £30,000 or more; if less, she would receive one-third of the total value.
