George Weatherill Ottley

Slave-owner and attorney on Antigua, resident at the time of compensation but dying in Hampshire in 1856. Between 1817 and 1824 he was shown as the owner of an estate in Antigua, inferred to be Gravenors but he did not appear as an awardee in the compensation records for that estate. By the 1850s, he was owner of Parry's, for which he had counterclaimed as an executor of Richard Byam mortgagee.

1. Will of George Weatheril Ottley of Antigua but at present residing at Shirley in the county of Southampton (made in 1854) was proved 14/08/1856. In the will he said that his estate on Antigua, which he gave as Parry's, was mortgaged as to £6000 to Shands of Liverpool: he left it subject to the mortgage to his son George O'Bryen Ottley, to whom he was also indebted, for £2000 upwards. George O'Bryen [given as O'Bryan] Ottley, a Lt-Col. in the East India Co., was living at Beulah Hill, Norwood in 1861, aged 50, born Antigua, with wife Mary and children, all born East Indies.
