William Henry Addison

Possibly the 'Addison', partner of William Brumell (q.v.) in Brumell & Addison, and possibly also the Addison shown as 'Innis and Addison', owners of the Prospect estate in Demerara in 1798.

1. Will of William Henry Addison [formerly of Liverpool but late] of Demerary proved 03/05/1815 [it was made in 1811]. Under the will he instructed his personal property in Demerara be sold and the proceeds remitted to his brother and executor Ralph Addison of [Temple Bar] London banker. He requested his executors to free the mulatto child John son of Flora and to give Flora a 'free pass for life', allowing her to live on the [unnamed] plantation if she chose. He reaffirmed the £1300 set aside in his marriage settlement for his wife Elizabeth Clarkson. He left his real estate including 'negroes' in Demerara to his [three] sons William Thomas, Eldred [Edward?] and Ralph Addison subject to the legacies charged on them, including £1200 to each of his four daughters Eliza, Anna, Emma and Julia. He returned to the child John later in the will, directing that he should be apprenticed to an engineer, and set up with his own tools, and that William Thomas Addison should act as his guardian. He punished his wife for conducting herself improperly by dividing among their daughters £1100 left to her under a previous version of his will.
