Thomas Williams

Brother and co-heir of John Williams of Clarendon Jamaica. Of Ryde Isle of Wight when he made his claim in 1834.

1. Not further traced to date, but this might conceivably be Admiral Sir Thomas Williams, son of William Williams RN. The evidence for this to date is only circumstantial. Admiral Sir Thomas Williams was shown as of 'New Church Upper Ryde' when he married in 1792 while his first wife Jane Cooper (Jane Austen's cousin) died on her way from Cowes to Ryde in 1798 after visiting her brother-in-law Capt. E. Williams. Neither the wills of Admiral Thomas Williams' father Capt. William Williams (proved 1779 but made 25 years earlier) nor of John Williams of Clarendon (which refers to his brother simply as Thomas Williams) offer confirmation of the link, however, and Admiral Sir Thomas Williams built a house at Brooklands in Fareham Hampshire in 1800 and died of Burwood House Surrey in 1841, so that an attribution to him of a Ryde address in the 1830s appears anomalous.
