Avis Stennett

Daughter of Wine Hodgson formerly Tracey (q.v.) and widow of George Stennett. The Liberty Hill estate and the enslaved people attached to it appear to have been transmitted through her.

1. The will of Avis Stennett widow [late of the island of Jamaica but now residing at] Wem Shropshire [made in 1836] was proved 21/07/1838. She left £5200 in West india Dock Co. stock to which she was entitled in trust (her trustees included her son George Radcliffe Stennett Doctor of Medicine of Jamaica and her great-nephew Abraham Hodgson Phillpotts) with £2000 of the sum to be held for the benefit of her daughter Jane Thompson or Steward, wife of Rev. John Steward of Wem and her children; £2000 for the benefit of her daughter Winefield Tracy Macdougall, wife of William Church Macdougall barrister-at-law late of No. 4 Boswell Court but now on his passage to Jamaica, and her children, with remainder to George Radcliffe Stennett and then to Jane Thompson or Steward and then to Mary Phillpotts; £500 for her grandson George Stennett Steward at 16 with the interest in the interim towards his support; and £500 for the first son of Winfield Tracy Macdougall and her husband. Her residuary heirs were her two daughters.
