Dr John Quier

Jamaican doctor and slave-owner, from Chard in Somerset, practising on Worthy Park among other estates fro over half a century.

1. Will of Dr John Quier of St John Jamaica [made in 1818 and registered in Jamaica in 1822] proved 15/01/1828. In the will he said he had already conveyed land at Chard in Somerset to his relation [later in the will identified as maternal relation] Samuel Brown clothier. He left legacies of property in Jamaica including people to his reputed natural daughters Ann and Catherine Quier, and to Catherine's daughter Catherine Ann Quier, to his reputed son Joseph Quier and his reputed grandsons Peter Quier Davis and John Quier Davis. He left the Shady Grove estate to his reputed daughter Catherine Quier and his housekeeper Susannah Price [he had advanced money already to his reputed daughter Ann Quier to allow her to purchase a house in Spanishtown, formerly that of Charles Grant].
