Francis Brown

Co-owner and then for a brief period possibly sole owner of Belleaire on St Vincent. In 1833 in the Privy Council case of Douglas v Smith and Brown, the unattested will of Francis Brown of August 1829 was overthrown in favour of an earlier version of May 1829, which transmitted his estate subject to much lower legacies to his grandson Francis Brown Douglas (q.v.).

1. Will of Francis Brown of Island of St Vincent proved 10/06/1834. This was the will of May 1829, upheld by the Privy Council in June 1833. Under this will, he left £7000 to each of William Brown, identified in the case as one of Francis Brown's lawful nephews, and Frances Buchanan, identified as one of Francis Brown's lawful nieces, and an annuity of £300 p.a. to Mrs Janet Buchanan, Francis Brown's lawful sister. Robert Brown (identified also as lawful nephew as well as executor and trustee) and William Smith were left the consignee profits from Bellaire during the minority of Francis Brown Douglas.
