Hugh Barkly

Partner in Davidsons Barkly until his death in 1829, and co-executor of Henry Davidson senior.

1. Will of Hugh Barkly merchant of Lime Street proved 04/11/1829. In the will [made in 1825] and a series of codicils, he left an annuity of £50 p.a. to his grandmother, to be continued after his death for an aunt, and monetary legacies of £100-500 each to several relatives, as well as gifts of £25-50 for mourning. He gave his 1/6th share in the ship the Henry Davidson to Henry Barkly; and his 1/8th share in the barque Camerons to Robert Innes. His residuary legatee was his sister William [sic], the wife of Robert Davidson. He specified his estate as including: his share of the balance of funds in the mercantile firm of Davidsons Barkly to be made up on the 31st May following his death; his shares in the two ships already bequeathed; 30 shares in the Alliance Fire & Life Office; 'ten Pearl shares'; 20 Thames Tunnel shares; and a policy for £2000 on his life with the Alliance. In a codicil he put the residuary bequest into trust for his sister William's separate use; and in a further codicil he left £2000 to Miss Mary Lindsay eldest daughter of Henry Lindsay of Perth.
