Thomas Howard Griffith

Father of Thomas Griffith of New Place Southampton (q.v.), to whom he left his Windsor estate. Thomas H. Griffith was Speaker of the House of Assembly in Barbados 1819-1821.

1. Will of Hon. Thomas Howard Griffith of St George Barbados (made in 1821) proved 11/03/1826. Under the will he left Windsor and all his other real estate to his eldest son Thomas, £3000 currency to his son William, £4000 currency to his son Daniel, £4000 currency to his son Abel, £3000 currency to his daughter Lucy Cobham, an annuity of £100 p.a. currency to his son Charles. He charged his Windsor estate with £10,000 for his daughter Jane Abel, wife of John Bran[d]ford Lane, and their children, other than the child entitled to succeed to the Castle Grant estate then in possession of John Bran[d]ford Lane (q.v.). This clause of the will was litigated in Benson v Benson in 1835 by Jane Abel's estranged second husband.
