Biography

Will of Constantine Phipps late of the island of St Christopher's but now of the City of London [made 01/07/1769] proved 01/09/1769. He left his wife Mary an annuity of £400 p.a. secured on his property, including enslaved people, in Christ Church, St Kitts and a separate annuity of £200 p.a. secured on his property including enslaved people in St Thomas Middle Island St Kitts. He left his property in Christ Church subject to the annuity above, and to two charges of £2000 each to his two daughters Lucy and Frances, to his eldest son James Farrill Phipps; and his property in St Thomas Middle Island subject to charges of £1000 each to his two daughters, to his son Constantine. Consistent with the above 2/3rd-1/3rds split, he pro-rated his debts between the two estates. James Farrill Phipps' daughter and heir Maria or Mary Charlotte married Sir Patrick Blake 2nd bart. (q.v.).

In his will of 1769, Constantine Phipps senior (q.v.) left his estate in St Thomas, Middle Island St Kitts to his son Constantine. The estate transcribed as Turtle[?] Island in the Compensation Records was previously shown in the Slave Registers as 'Con Phipps' in St Thomas and must be the same estate.
