Thomas Langford Brooke senior

Grandson of Jonas Langford, brother of Jonas Langford Brooke and father of Peter Langford Brooke and Thomas Langford Brooke (each of whom q.v.).

1. Will of Thomas Langford Brooke of Mere Cheshire proved 10/06/1816. He provided for his younger children on a sliding-scale, with a sum set aside of £10,000 if one such child to £16,000 if five such children. In his will he described the transaction by which he had agreed to purchase the estate, and enslaved people attached to it, of Sir James Laroche on Antigua from William Manning and Justinian Casamajor: the purchase had been delayed and he had invested the £10,000 to be paid in Exchequer bills, the second £10,000 to be secured by a bond by himself and his eldest son Peter Langford Brooke, who had joined with him in the purchase. He expected the £10,000 second payment to be financed out of the produce of his Antiguan estates. He provided £4000 for his son Thomas Langford Brooke who was to enter partnership with Henry Gilbee of the City of London, and an annuity of £1000 p.a. secured on the Laroche estate.
