James Tyson

Resident St Kitts slave-owner, owner of Mt Pleasant and Belle Vue in Trinity Palmetto Point; Limekiln in Basseterre; and Conarees estate in St Peters Basseterre. None of the first three have been traced with confidence in the first Slave Register in 1817.

1. Administration of the will of James Tyson planter of the island of St Christopher was granted in London to his brother Daniel Tyson 07/08/1818 (when an earlier administration of 1817 granted to John Campbell Lees as creditor on the basis that James Tyson had died intestate was revoked), but had been a made in 1804 and attested in St Kitts in 1809. Under his will he left his estates identified as Mount Pleasant, Belle Vue and Limekiln to his sister Margaret Tyson and after her death to their siblings and then to his nephews; he left Conarees and Muddy Pond to his nephew Thomas Tyson subject to four legacies of £2000 each to other family members. He left an annuity of £50 p.a. and £300 at her marriage to Jane Tyson, 'a Mestize girl now in Greenock.'
