Thomas Prince of Bath

Returned slave-owner from Jamaica, dying in Bath in 1816. A stone for him was recorded by Oliver in Walcot Burial Ground. His wife Mary Anne Prince (q.v.) claimed as an annuitant on the Norwich estate in Jamaica.

1. Will of Thomas Prince of Widcombe Crescent near Bath [formerly of the island of Jamaica] proved 16/08/1816. He gave his wife Mary Anne an annuity of £150 p.a. in addition to the annuity of £250 p.a. for their joint lives 'settled by a deed of trust to James Leas [?] Esq. for our joint and several lives' and secured by a mortgage on the Norwich plantation in Jamaica 'sold by me to James Colthirst Colthirst' being also for the sale of part of Terra Nova to James Colthirst Colthirst, on which he [Prince] had previously settled £200 [p.a.?] in favour of his wife, now superseded by the sale. He had he said made his son Thomas now a captain in the Co. of Middlesex militia, independent by a gift of land and 'negroes' in Jamaica prior to his [the testator's] last marriage; and he left an annuity of £50 p.a. to a second son John, of HM Navy. He left in trust his warehouse at Liverpool and his house at 22 St James Square Bath: the beneficiaries of this and the residual estate were his children apparently with Mary Anne, including Henry James Prince the founder of the Agapemonites.
