Charles Mitchell

1. Will of Charles Mitchell of St Andrew Jamaica [made 18/08/1807] proved 13/12/1810. He left his personalty including live and dead stock on his pen at Liguanea to his wife Elizabeth together with the household items in the dwelling house on Caymanas plantation in St Catherine: he desired that she should be supplied with rum, sugar and provisions from the Glade Pen and from Caymanas. He also left her his pen at Liguanea and thirty-seven named enslaved people for life. He explicitly authorised his wife to manumit any of the enslaved people and drew her attention to 'the little female child called Arrow [?]'. He left her an annuity of £500 p.a. increasing to £800 p.a. when his debts were cleared. He left his wife's nephew Charles Price Bennett of the UK an annuity of £84 currency rising to £112; £98 p.a. to his wife's niece Ann Price French, rising to £140 p.a. ; £84 p.a. rising to £112 p.a. to another niece Sarah Delapierre Bennett; £350 p.a rising to £450 p.a. to another niece Elizabeth Rosewell Naish; and £140 p.a. currency each to his several cousins, the children of his aunt Elizabeth Ballantine of Burntisland Fifeshire. He left the rest of his estate in trust (one of his trustees was his brother George Hanbury Mitchell of Titchfield Lodge, and another, his'brother of the half blood', was Gilbert Mathison at present of London, who were his residuary legatees).
