Slave-owner in St Catherine, Jamaica, after inheriting an estate and enslaved people from his bother Alexander Sutherland (who d. c. 1798). This was the George Sutherland who has an entry in the Dictionary of Canadian Biography as 'HBC master.' The entry shows George Sutherland as inheriting property in Jamaica from his brother c. 1798 and retiring to London, where he died c. 1811.
