1. Will of John MacQueen otherwise McQueen [late of St Thomas-in-the-East Jamaica but now of York Place] St Marylebone proved 15/07/1809. In the will he rehearsed the will of his father Daniel [also given as David] MacQueen dated 06/07/1757 under which John MacQueen was tenant-for-life of the residue of his father's estate, but could will £5000 as portions for younger children, which he duly did for his 5 younger children (named as George James; Fitzherbert; Gilbert; Jane Maria; and Elizabeth Eleanor). The entail only covered the Potosi estate rather than the estate and the enslaved people together, so MacQueen provided for the renting of the enslaved people to the estate. In addition he left his three younger sons £7300 each and his two daughters £5300 each. He also had property at Bursledon in Hampshire which in a codicil he placed in trust for his wife and family to live there until his trustee George Hanbury Mitchell decided to sell the property.
