Biography

  1. Will of Dominick Trant [late of Montserrat but now] of London proved 14/04/1762. In the will he left £500 for the poor of Montserrat 'but my will is that the said sum..be laid out int purchase of young girls of 12 or 14 years of age.' After smaller monetary legacies of £50 each to several individuals, he left an annuity of £300 p.a. and a lump sum of £5000 to his daughter Sarah Blake. He left an annuity of £300 p.a. to his grandson Dominick Trant and the latter's heirs, and the rest of his property to his son James Trant. If his son James and daughter Sarah died without issue, he left his property in Montserrat and St Kitts (the latter let to James Esdaile and Archibald Esdaile) to his nephew Edmond Morphy but subject to the payment of £5000 to the children and grandchildren of his [the testator's] four siblings William, John, Katherine and Elizabeth.

Dominic Trant left his estate in St Kitts then let to James Esdaile and Archibald Esdaile to James Trant in his will proved in 1762. The estate appears on Samuel Baker's 1753 map on the southern border of St Paul Capesterre. By 1828 it was uncultivated.
