John Sayers

London and possibly Dublin merchant, dying in England in 1808.

1. Will of John Sayers Esq. [formerly of the City of London but now] of Totness Devon [made in February 1807] proved 06/09/1808. In the will he confirmed his settlement of an annuity of £500 p.a. on his wife Margaret, payable out of his land at Wicklow. His trustees were Jonathan Morgan of the City of London and John Gordon of Barbados. He left in trust £5000 Irish currency, the fortune he had promised on the marriage of his sister Margaret to Richard Wogan Talbot [MP for Co. Dublin 1807-1830], and a further £1700 sterling, in both cases the income to be paid to Margaret for her life and then for the Talbots' children. He also left her three houses at Malahide for life. He left £5000 each to his sister Priscilla Sayers and brother Samuel Sayers, and £2000 each to the children of his late sister Isabella Ball, £2000 to the children [in a codicil said to be seven] of his sister Martha Gray and £2000 each to the children of his brother Richard Sayers. He left his two trustees £3000 each, with the proviso that if his estate was not adequate to support all his legacies they should bear the shortfall in their legacies proportionally. He left his real estate and 'slaves, negroes and other stock' in Demerara and his real estate in Ireland (other than the three houses at Malahide) in trust to be sold and the proceeds divided among his legatees (other than Jonathan Morgan and John Gordon) in proportion to their monetary legacies.
