Biography

  1. Will of Edward Williams [formerly of Antigua but now] of Thames Ditton proved 16/04/1784. He left his wife Mary his household effects but not his library, and an annuity of £800 p.a, of which £600 p.a. was secured on the Road estate and £200 p.a. secured on the Body estate. He left to his niece Ann Chalmers a debt of £200 due to him from her husband James Chalmers. He entailed his Road estate and the enslaved people on it in Antigua to Samuel Williams now residing in Antigua Barrister at law and his heirs with contingent remainder to Rowland Edward Williams, and the Road, Upper or Tom Mores and the Cistern estates and the enslaved people on them to Rowland Edward Williams, then also in Antigua, and his heirs, with contingent remainder to Samuel Williams. Although his will did not identify them, Vere Langford Oliver shows Samuel and Rowland Edward as his two sons.
