Biography

  1. Administration of the will of Alexander Stewart of Ballylough County Antrim [made in 1739 and proved in 1742] was granted 28/07/1781. He left £4000 to his two daughters Ann and Rose and £50 p.a. and £2000 to his wife Ann over and above her entitlement under their marriage settlement. He said that under this marriage settlement of 1737, John Stewart of Jamaica, his wife's father, had conveyed to him one half of the Fort Stewart plantation (he himself appears to have put up £15,000 currency). He charged his wife's annuity and legacy on his half of Fort Stewart, and explicitly not on his Irish estates, and he charged a further £4000 for his two daughters. He left his real estate in Ireland, North Carolina and Jamaica to his son Alexander. He specified in a codicil that the house he intended his wife to live in for life was Acton in Co. Armagh.
