Samuel Francis senior

Owner of Newington (a coffee plantation) and Barracks (a pen) in St Thomas-in-the-East, Jamaica. Died c. 1827.

1. Will of Samuel Francis of St Thomas-in-the-East Jamaica [attested in 1827] proved 07/07/1828. He left £300 each to his surviving brothers and sisters and £50 each to his nieces and nephews with an additional £200 to his nephew Samuel Forbar [?] of 'this island.' He left £100 currency to Eliza Francis, a free woman of colour, and her children; and £10 currency p.a. to Frederick Francis, an 'old negro man' on Newington. He left to Elizabeth Logan [Loyau] £1000 currency, as well as a negro woman Frankie and her children Lamont and Samuel and also a mulatto girl named Maria Moore and a boy named Robert, for her life and then to her children Samuel William Elizabeth and Sarah Ann Francis. He left his estates and enslaved people in trust for his four children in England for their education. The will specifies John Mackie and John Laing of Fenchurch Street London merchants among his executors, together with Samuel Francis jun. of Cottonwood [?] near Northampton.
