Mary Mcnemara formerly King (née Douglas)

Slave-owner on Antigua, with estate(s) and enslaved people leased to John Harvey which and whom she left to Sir James Douglas (q.v.). Her death-date is not known but her will was proved in London in early 1778.

1. Will of Mary McNemara [sic] wife of St Margaret Westminster [made in 1763] proved 26/01/1778. She opened by reciting her marriage settlement with Dr Michael Mcnemara [of January 1762] under which her plantations and enslaved people on Antigua, leased to John Harvey for £1120 p.a., secured to her an annuity of £600 p.a. She left these plantations under entail to Sir James Douglas and his heirs. After monetary legacies her residuary heirs were her husband Michael McNemera and Sir James Douglas, the latter identified in the probate as Vice Admiral of the Red. Her husband's will was proved in 1780. The enslaved people leased to John Harvey appear to have passed via Sir James Douglas to Sir George Douglas bart. (q.v.).
