William Maynard of Barbados and Bath

Slave-owner of Barbados, living in Bath when he made his will in 1763.

1. Will of William Maynard [late of the island of Barbados but now residing at] Bath proved 11/10/1764. In the will he left to his wife Margaret for life his plantation 'in the parishes of St Thomas, St Michael and Saint James...commonly called Clearmont or the Black Rock plantation formerly Ballards', subject to an annuity of £30 p.a. to his sister Margaret Ross. He left the estate itself after his wife's death to his niece Elizabeth Lane, daughter of his brother-in-law John Lane. He had charged another estate on the leeward of Barbados [unnamed in the will but identified by LBS as Maynard's] with a debt to Sir William Baker Alderman of London, and he left this estate to his nephew Maynard Miller. His residuary heir was his nephew John, the son of John Lane.
