John Kemeys Gardner Kemeys

Absentee slave-owner, son of John Gardner Kemeys (born Gardner), from whom he had inherited 'slave-property' in Jamaica, and Jane Kemeys of a long-established Monmouthshire family. He appears to have settled his Jamaica property including enslaved people on his daughter Susan Gardner Kemeys on her marriage to Colthust Bateman (q.v.).

1. Will of John Kemeys Gardner Kemeys [late of Bertholoy Monmouthshire but now of Prospect House in the parish] of St James Bristol proved 27/10/1830. He left to Martha Michael (daughter of Anne Michael of Kemeys Inferior in Monmouthshire) then living with him an annuity of £150 p.a and Prospect House for life (converted in a codicil to a permanent legacy), with the rest of his estate including whatever Jamaica property he was entitled to under the marriage settlement of his daughter Sarah Gardner Bateman and her husband Colthust Bateman passing to the latter two.
