William Lindsey

Son and heir-at-law of John Lindsey of Morgans alias the Villa and Ann Lindsey nee Doig (q.v.).

1. Will of William Lindsey [formerly of Antigua, afterwards of Dean Street Soho and Allsops Buildings New Road and of Bath but late] of Southampton proved 19/03/1812. He opened the will by stating that he was entitled to 'burthen' two estates in the West Indies, one in Antigua and the other Dominica, belonging to Earle Lindsey Daniell 'formerly mine', with £1500, under an indenture between himself [the testator] and Thomas Daniell, Earle Lindsey Daniell's father, and he left the income on the £1500 to Mary Meredith 'who now resides with me' and the principal to his three nephews John, William and Robert Lindsey [the sons of his brother Rev. James Lindsey]. He left Mary Meredith a further 100 guineas for mourning and 400 guineas which he asked she left at her death to his niece Ann Lindsey Jarvis. He left £1500 to his nephews William Chacon Lindsey and Robert Lindsey (£600 each) and niece Ann Lindsey Jarvis (£300), with the residue of his estate to his nephew John Lindsey.

Although Vere Langford Oliver refers to him as Rev .William Lindsey, there is no evidence in his will or in the Oxford University Alumni that he took orders, Oliver History of Antigua Vol. II 'Lindsey Family' pp. 184-187.
