Francis Degen merchant of Fulham

London merchant an ship-owner, naturalised in 1752, and consignee of 50 hogsheads of sugar p.a. under the will of Lewis Brotherson sen. (q.v.).

1. Will of Francis Degen of [Hammersmith] Fulham merchant proved 10/10/1783. He left his property in trust (his trustees included William Manning sen.) to provide the interest on £6000, the income on £1000 with the Royal Exchange Assurance and further £36 p.a. from consols, together with his small house in Hammersmith for life, to Katherine Foljambe, then living with him. He left his large house on The Mall Hammersmith and £8000 to William Manning jun. when he reached 21. In a codicil he willed his share in three ships to their respective captains, Capt. John Calfe, Capt. James Blair and Capt. Richard Livermore.
