Biography

  1. Will of Thomas Proudfoot of [Bernard Street] St Marylebone [made in 1773] proved 06/11/1776. He left his estates and enslaved people on Grenada to his brother Edmund Proudfoot [with whom he also had jointly owned property] for life and then to the latter's son, also Edmund, failing whom to his [the testator's] other brother Samuel and his heirs, failing whom to his sisters Elizabeth and Hannah Proudfoot. He specified that other than his estates Pearl, Mount Loria and Belleair, his property on Grenada should be sold, and the proceeds used in part to release Pearl from its encumbrances. He left his brother Samuel £6000 and his sisters £1000 each and an annuity of £100 p.a. He left £500 to his manager Frederick Seymour. He manumitted an enslaved woman named Tonette and her son Raimond [?], a 'mulatto' boy, and left them £100 currency each. He made a codicil in 1774 in Grenada appointing additional local executors given the growth in his affairs there.
