Biography

Sophia Annesley, co-owner with Lucy Annesley (q.v.) of the Diamond estate in Trinidad in 1828, and awarded the compensation for a single enslaved person in 1834. The two women were daughters of Major Richard Annesley (q.v).

  1. In 1851 Sophia Annesley born Trinidad aged 40 'spinster' was a visitor at the house of Richard Paul Joddrel and his wife, described as 'peer's daughter', in Childwick Bury, St Albans. In 1881 and 1891 aged 77 and 87 respectively, she was living at 30 Princess Terrace, 'aunt', with Ponsonby A. Lyons, a clergyman. Her death was registered at Pancras Q4 1895 aged 92. Ponsonby A[nnesley] Lyons was the son of the Rev. Thomas Alfred Lyons of Dunmore Rectory, Tuam, Co. Galway and of Lucy Lyons nee Annesley.
