James B. Brunton

Probably but not certainly James Brunton alias James Badland, grandson of Susannah Badland of Leigh, Worcestershire.

1. Will of Susannah Badland widow of Leigh Worcestershire proved 11/07/1829. The will, dated 07/02/1828, sets out as background that her son Joseph Brunton Exquire alias John Badland lately died intestate in Diego Martin Trinidad, leaving his mother as the heiress to his three sugar plantations, Pampluna [sic] in St Juans de Aricagua; Diamond, St Lucien and Westmoreland in the quarter of Diego Martin. She in turn bequeathed the estates in trust to Thomas Colley her son-in-law to sell and divide the proceeds 8 ways between her four children; her son-in-law; her grandson James Brunton alias James Badland; a 'mulatta boy; born 1813 'the son of a female negro called Maria Louisa at that time a slave to or living with my son the said Joseph Brunton'; and Maria Louisa Jones Brunton, the natural daughter of Mrs Catherine Whinn Jones. The latter two legatees would forfeit their legacies if they took the personal estate of Joseph Brunton alias John Badland by virtue of his will dated at Liverpool on 17/11/1815.
